Common Questions

What is the cost and return on investment?

A full installation will cost $4,995 (including GST), with an expected payback of under 5 years, and you will have ample hot water for many years thereafter.

Will I be locked into a long term contract for my system ?

Absolutely not, the system is owned outright by you to enjoy the benefits of hot water powered by the sun for many years.

Will I have hot water on cloudy or rainy days?

Yes. If there is not sufficient Solar heating, the system will automatically top-up with grid power to make sure you are never without hot water

Can I use solar panels to heat water?

Yes, with our advanced technology, you can heat any hot water cylinder directly from the sun’s energy, reducing your reliance on traditional power.

Does the system work during power outages?

Yes, during grid power outages our system will continue to use all the electricity available from the Solar Panels.

How many solar panels will be supplied ?

We will supply and install 6 premium solar panels rated by manufacturers to produce more than 2.6kW peak, covering about 12 square meters of sunny roof space.

What is a grid-tied solar system?

Grid-tied systems are solar panels that are connected to the power grid. If homes do not use all the solar power generated during the day, then Energy Retailers will purchase the excess solar power from you. Beware that Energy Retailers will pay you less for your solar power than what you pay them for power, so the key is to self-consume all of your solar generation during the day. Also beware that as more homes adopt roof-top solar, the Energy Retailers will pay less and less to buy your excess solar power – Australian retailers are now paying close to 1c per kWhr.

Is the OneEnergy.nz system grid-tied?

One Energy’s Sol•Flare controller is grid-boosted but not grid-tied. Our system does not need to be grid-tied because you will self-consume almost all of the solar power generated by heating Hot Water – using your Hot Water Cylinder as a giant battery. Cleverly, the Sol•Flare controller is grid-boosted to still use your mains electricity on wet days or overnight to assist with topping up your hot water whenever required.

How much money can I save with OneEnergy.nz?

You could save up to 90% on water heating costs, depending on usage, and for average households this could be as much as 50% of your home's annual power bill.

How does the OneEnergy.nz system compare to traditional solar water heating?

Our system uses any existing hot water cylinder and the electricity from solar PV (photovoltaic) panels, whereas traditional systems use plumbed water circulation. Our approach is more cost-effective, simpler to install, more efficient, and maintenance free.

How long will the OneEnergy.nz solar water heating system last ?

Our system uses premium Solar Panels that are supplied with a 25-year manufacturers warranty. Our Sol•Flare controller, manufactured in Europe, has a design life of more than 15 years and is supplied with a 5 year product warranty.

What happens if I need to replace my hot water cylinder?

Our system is compatible with all electric hot water cylinders, so if you replace your hot water cylinder our system will continue to work without interruption - however you should notify us of the change beforehand. With our industry partnerships we can also provide you with a great price to replace your hot water cylinder - please Get In Touch.

Can I take my OneEnergy.nz system if I move?

Yes, you can relocate your system, though it may be more practical to leave it behind and install a new system at your new home.
